Essential services over Christmas and New Year

Protect yourself from crime this Christmas
An officer from the local Brunel Policing Team (brunel.snt@met.police.uk) dropped round this afternoon with these tips for protecting yourself from crime this Christmas.
Always fully close and lock all external doors and windows when no one is at home.
Don't leave any signs that may indicate that your home is empty.
Fit automatic interior and exterior security lighting.
Ask neighbours to pay particular attention to your premises if you are away during the holiday season.
Property mark, photograph and record serial numbers of all new gifts.
Don't leave car keys or other property easily accessible from the letterbox.
Use mock Christmas presents under your Christmas tree.
Dispose of Christmas packaging discretely.
Tune your radio to a talk radio station and set it on a timer.
If you intend having a drink, don't drive.
Most importantly stay safe and enjoy the festive season!
Set your burglar alarms and timer switches. Secure your home. Secure your garage. Secure your shed.

Today's meeting
Thank you to everyone who came out to this afternoon's meeting in St Laurence's Church Hall.
Thank you to local councillors Keith Burrows, Brian Stead and Tony Burles for coming to answer questions, and also to Sergeant John Hine of the Uxbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Cowley in the Great War
In the First World War the village of Cowley was a scattering of houses and businesses surrounded by farmland. The size of Cowley could lead one to think that it wasn't greatly affected by the war.
Yet if you look at the War Memorial in St Laurence's church you will see quite a few names listed there. The war had a significant impact on the village.
In the summer St Laurence's church held two exhibitions about Cowley in the First World War. This Christmas season all of the major exhibition panels will be added to the church website as PDFs.
